For my own part i would as soon be descended from that heroic little monkey , who braved his dreaded enemy in order to save the life of his keeper , or from that old baboon , who descending from the mountains , carried away in triumph his young comrade from a crowd of astonished dogs - as from a savage who delights to torture his enemies , offers up bloody sacrifices , practises infanticide without remorse , treats his wives like slaves , knows no decency , and is haunted by the grossest superstitions 就我自己说，我宁愿是那只英勇的小猴的后代，他可以为了保护自己的养育者而同最可怕的敌人死战；或是那只老狒狒的后代，他可以从山上飞快下来，从一群吃惊的狗当中把他的青年同伴胜利地救走：而不愿做一个野人的后代，因为他以折磨敌人为乐，杀婴儿而不心痛，待妻子犹如奴隶，没有一丝儿良善，脑子里布满了最粗野的迷信。
