On the branches of the cedars were perched large eagles ; amid the foliage of the weeping willows were herons , solemnly standing on one leg ; and on every hand were crows , ducks , hawks , wild birds , and a multitude of cranes , which the japanese consider sacred , and which to their minds symbolize long life and prosperity 没有一棵高大的杉树上没有巨鹰的巢穴。没有一棵垂杨柳的树荫下看不到象在忧郁沉思着的单足独立的鹭鸶。这里到处都是小鸟野鸭山鹰和野雁，此外还有很多仙鹤，日本人把仙鹤当作神鸟看待，认为仙鹤是长命富贵的象征。
